The Name Yahweh from the Ghana Chronicle News by David L. Matthews

There’s a primary reason for people to understanding the name Yahweh.

One is the scripture tells us to renew our mind. Renew means to renovate. Otherwise take out the old way of thinking and think the way the Lord wants you to think towards him and all things pertaining to godliness, life and salvation.

In my personal life when I pray I will address the one I serve as Yahweh because I’m constantly reminding myself that I have entered into a covenant with him. The scripture tells us to pray to the Father. I seldom pray Father. I usually just say Yahweh when I begin to pray and talk to him about whatever I need to talk to him about. What that does for me is keeps me thinking that I’m in a covenant relationship and he’s my covenant keeping God.

According to the word I can trust him; I can believe him to be my recue, safety, physically, morally, saving health, deliverance and all the meanings of the word salvation.  I advise you to do the same thing. We have a covenant keeping God and as we realize that we need to enter into a covenant relationship adding to our born again experiences.

In Genesis the story where Abraham was going to take Isaac up to kill him he was being put to the test. The scriptures tell us Yahweh said he was a prophet and he was prophesying what the Lord Jesus Christ or Yahshua would do. In the eleventh verse Abraham built the altar, wood etc. as a man full of faith and power. Yahweh the covenant keeping God said that this nation would come through Isaac; it would come through Jacob. If Isaac did not revive from the dead Yahweh’s promise that these children; these nations that would come out of the loins of Abraham would never come to pass. Abraham believed God so went up to kill Isaac and he told his servant I and my son will be back down.  He was expecting even though he would kill Isaac that Isaac would come back down from the mountain.

Genesis 22:11 And the angel of the Lord (or the spirit of Yahweh) called unto out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.

Genesis 22:12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God (Elohim the creator), seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.

Genesis 22:13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.

Genesis 22:14 And Abraham called the name of the place Jehovah Jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord (Yahweh the Lord, the covenant keeping God) it shall be seen.

I want you to understand the word Jehovah Jireh was never in the original. What is really said was and Abraham called the name of that place Yahweh who is now called Jehovah Jireh or Yahweh Jireh. Many people believe Jireh meant he is going to meet all your needs. That is the wrong word for that. El Shaddai means he is going to meet all your needs. The word Jireh means he will see and provide himself a sacrifice. He saw that Abraham would obey him. He provided himself a sacrifice.

There was a substitute sacrifice that was the lamb. Yahweh saw our condition and the condition of all sinners, not just the Jews. He said I’ll provide a sacrifice. So he provided his son as the Lamb of God that through it we would have redemption from the curse of the law. We would be born again, enter into a covenant relationship.

Abraham prophetically performed what our Lamb would do.

John 1:29 (KJV) The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God (Elohim), which taketh away the sin of the world.

Genesis 14:22 (KJV) And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD (Yah), the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,

Abraham stood before Melchizedek lifted his right hand and swore an oath, (to bind by means of an oath) a covenant and took bread and wine.

Matthew 26:26-28 (KJV) 26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. 27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; 28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Abraham prophetically performed Romans 10:9 and Romans 10:10. Jesus (Yahshua) is our Melchizedek.

Hebrews 7:21-22 (KJV) (For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent (change his mind), Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:) 22 By so much was Jesus (Yahshua) made a surety (a bondsman) of a better testament (covenant).

Genesis 22:15 And the angel of the Lord (Yahweh) called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time, vs 16, And said, By myself have I sworn (otherwise he swore and oath), saith the Lord (Yahweh), for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: vs 17, That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; vs 18, And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

I want you to understand this covenant relationship because it’s all throughout the scriptures. We must enter into a blood covenant. When you can’t buy or sell without the mark the only way to overcome is by a blood covenant and your testimony. What you said will be on record in heaven that you have entered into this blood covenant. Therefore you are deserving of the benefits of the salvation because of the grace of God. The benefits are rescue or safety (physically or morally), to deliver salvation – bring, get, have, sustain.

Save-Sozo = make whole, saving- Greek Peri poiesis meaning preservation.

Psalms 103:1-5 Bless the Lord (Yahweh), O my soul (me, myself): And all this is within me, Bless His holy name (Yahweh, the God of Covenant). Vs.2 Bless the Lord (Yahweh), O my soul (life), And forget not all His benefits; Vs.3 Who forgiveth (passeth over) all thine iniquities; who redeemeth thy life (The Hebrew word Nephesh is the same word for life and soul from destruction; Vs.4 Who crowneth thee with loving kindness and tender mercies (compassions); Vs.5 Who satisfieth the mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Matthew 14:14 (KJV) 14 And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.

Psalms 68:18-19 Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive; Thou hast received gifts for men; Yea for the rebellious also, that the Lord (Yah, Jesus = Yahuwah) God (Elohim, the Creator) might dwell among them. Vs.19 Blessed be the Lord (EL, meaning the almighty God who can do all things) who daily loadeth us with benefits. Even the God (EL Almighty God) of our salvation.

Psalms 116:12

In Exodus the seventeenth chapter where the word Jehovah is used it reads;

Exodus 17:15 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it  Yahweh Jehovah-Nissi: So here again you have to understand the covenant keeping God (Elohim, the Creator) who said in the garden that the seed of the women would crush the head of Satan and Satan would bruise his heel. But he (the Lamb of God) would crush the head of Satan and would come down through tribe of Judah, through the people of Israel He who would be the salvation of the world. In each of these circumstances he’s keeping his word, his covenant. As they won this battle because the covenant keeping God was on their side, he promised them the land and victory of their enemies.

Exodus 17:10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. Vs 11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. Vs 12 But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until going down the sun.

The significance of this where they held up his hands; his hand was a swearing, an oath. He’s holding up his hands because the covenant keeping God said he would do certain things. So he’s holding up his hands as Yahweh holds up his and swore by himself. As long as his hands were up that was a testimony.  You have to remember when the gospels preached to Abraham he held his hand up before Melchisedec and swore and oath. He did Romans 10:9 and we’ll get to that later. While his hands up indicating this oath that Yahweh had with the people Israel to bring them out of bondage and to give them this land. As long as his hand was up; a sign of the swearing of the oath then they won the battle.

In the fifteenth verse he built the altar.

Exodus 17:15 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Yahweh Jehovah-Nissi. Jehovah-Nissi means he’s my banner. They swore an oath with this banner they would go out against their enemies and would conquer. So Moses built an altar and called it Yahweh-Nissi. (Yahwey who is our banner)He didn’t call it Jehovah. He called it Yahweh the covenant keeping God. He’s reminding himself and the people it was Yahweh that helped them win this battle and keep the oath they had with him.

Yah – Jah means He Who Is and Was, And Is To Come. He who has become our salvation.

Exodus 17:16 For he said, Because the Lord (the word Lord there is Yah but they changed it to J and there were no J’s in the Hebrew language. We’ll get to that later.) hath sworn that the Lord (Yahweh) will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.

In lifting up the banner of Yah is to swear to Yahweh Jehovah against Amalek. They were trusting always throughout the scriptures.

Over six thousand times the word Lord in the bible is really Yahweh. Sometimes it says Yahweh the creator of Israel. We as a church must get to know him in covenant relationship not just as our God or Lord. We need to change the way we think and enter into a blood covenant so we can say Yahweh is my God in truth.  Not just saying it for the sake of saying it but Yahweh is my God in truth.

Judges 6:24 Then Gideon built an altar there unto the Lord (Yahweh the covenant keeping God), and called it Jehovah-Shalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

Here again he’s building it and it is Jehovah-Shalom because of his promise. The angel of the Lord or the spirit of Yah; the word angel is translated spirit. Angels don’t have wings. They look like men. Angels with wings is part of the great falling away from truth (apostasy). There are times we know the Lord as Yah and it means he who was and is and is to come; the ancient of days. He said before Abraham was; I am. He was Emmanuel, God in the flesh.  At times he appeared by spirit as a man.

Judges 6:22 And when Gideon perceived that he was an angel spirit of the Lord, Gideon said, Alas, O Lord God (O Yahweh, creator)! for because I have seen an angel of the Lord (the spirit of the Lord) face to face.  Vs 23 And the Lord said unto him, Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die.

So he built an altar and called it Jehovah-Shalom. Yahweh who is or peace; He had peace. The scripture in Isaiah says the chastisement of our peace, our shalom. our well-being was upon him. Because of what he did at Calvary we have a sense of peace and have the kind of rescue, safety, physically or morally that comes in a covenant keeping relationship with our covenant keeping God.

This church is not walking in a covenant relationship. One of the primary things that have to be done before you can enter into covenant is get out of Babylon. That is what Abraham did. We’re going to look at another scripture in Psalms 83 where the word Jehovah is used.

Psalms 83:18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah (Yahweh the covenant keeping God), art the most high over all the earth.

You need to enter into this covenant and think in terms of being in covenant relationship. We’ll talk more about that later.

Turn to Isaiah 12:2. Here again you have the word Jehovah and it’s talking about a covenant relationship.

Isaiah 12:1 And in that day thou shalt say, O Lord (O Yahweh), I will praise thee: though thou wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortedst me. Vs. 2 Behold, God (the word God there is El. It means the almighty. If you add Elohim it adds the almighty with the ability to create.) is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord (the word Lord there is Yah. In some of your translations it is Jah but it’s Yah. It is the prefix of Yahweh.Yahshua;Jesus, the salvation of the covenant keeping God ) Jehovah (Yahweh)is my strength and my (song); he also is become my salvation (rescue, safety, physically, morally).

So it says El the almighty is my salvation. It was through Jesus that we go to the Father.  The father himself, Yahweh becomes our salvation.

Isaiah 12:3 Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation. Vs. 4 And in that day shall ye say, Praise the Lord (Yahweh), call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted.

The church must be prepared to sing this song in Isaiah the twelfth chapter in the first, second and third verses.  Right now the church can’t sing it. It’s the same song that will be sung and was sung when they came out of Egypt in Exodus the fifteenth chapter.

Exodus 15:1 Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the Lord (Yahweh the covenant keeping God), and spake, saying, I will sing unto the Lord (Yahweh), for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.

I want to emphasize they keep saying Yahweh over and over again because he has kept his promise to bring them out of Egypt. This definition reinforces in their hearts if they walk in covenant with him, he is going to be their blesser; their rescue safety, physically, morally.

In Exodus 15:2 the word Lord there is Yah is my strength and song. He has become by recue, safety, physically, morally, saving health. Again, Yah is he who was, is and is to come; the ancient of days. That’s the Lord who we call Jesus; he’s called the ancient of days in Revelations. Yah would be the almighty God himself, Yahweh. Some translations have Jah.

When the Lord said to his disciples don’t pray to me, pray to the father in my name. Go straight to the father. No man comes to the father but by me, through the blood of the lamb; through what he’s done at Calvary. What we know as heavenly father or Yahweh the covenant keeping God, he himself becomes our rescue, safety, physically, morally, saving health, deliverance by covenant relationship.

He is my God. The word God there is El. He is the almighty. He’s my father’s God. That word is Elohim (Creator) and I will exalt him.

Exodus 15:3 Yahweh is a man of war: the Lord is his name. The word Lord is Yahweh. Yahweh the covenant keeping God (Yah) is his name.

Let me go back to what I said earlier. It says the people knew him by his name all mighty but they didn’t know him as Yahweh the covenant keeping God. This church calls him Lord, God, Jesus but this church does not know him in covenant relationship and is not in a position to be able to sing that song and claim him as their salvation.

I don’t know at my age if I’ll be around at that point. I could well be but I don’t know how fast things are coming together but certainly you, the younger generation alive in the next five to thirty years will absolutely see this all come to pass. You will have no other choice just like when they came out of Egypt the only choice you will have is to be in a covenant relationship with Yahweh.

Revelation 15:1 And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God (Elohim the creator). Vs. 2 And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory of the beast (the beast is the nations that make up the holy Roman empire, we call them the EU nations), and over the image, and over the mark (punch, incising, scratching, the mark the needle makes when they put it in the right hand or forehead) and over the number of his name (666), stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God (the creator). Vs 3 And they sing the song of Moses (the same song we went over in Isaiah 12:2) the servant of God (the Creator), and the song of the Lamb (what we know as Yashua or Jesus), saying, Great and marvelous are my works, Lord God Almighty (the Lord God Almighty El); just and true are they ways, thou King of saints. Vs 4 Who shall not fear thee, O Lord (Yahweh), and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgements are made manifest.

That time is just ahead of us. Things are being shaped up.

Revelation 15:5 And after that I looked, and behold, the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened:

You need to have a record on high that you’ve entered into t a blood covenant. You need it now because of all the things you’re going through; sickness, diseases, plagues.

Revelation 18 says come out my people there’s a plague coming. If people don’t get out of Babylon you are a candidate for dying in the death strokes coming on the world.
